About

Who we are and how we work

Montvia builds websites and custom software. There are a small number of us, and the people you talk to are the people doing the work.

Our story

Why we started

Montvia started because hiring someone to build software is usually a frustrating experience. You get sold senior expertise in the pitch, then the work goes to whoever happens to be free. Deadlines slip and nobody really explains why.

We wanted to work the other way round, so we kept the team small. The people who scope a project are the ones who build it, and there is nobody in the middle to pass your question along to.

The name is Latin. Mont is a mountain and via is a road, which felt about right for the work: something in the way, and a sensible route past it.

How we operate

Four things we don't compromise on

Scope you can hold us to

A written proposal with a fixed scope and timeline before anything begins. Changes get discussed and agreed, never assumed.

Visible progress

A live staging URL from the first week and a written update every week. You never have to ask how it's going.

You own everything

Code, infrastructure, accounts, domains and documentation are yours from day one. Leaving is always easy, which is why nobody does.

We say no

If a project isn't a good fit, or you'd be better served by an off-the-shelf tool, we'll tell you. It costs us work and earns us referrals.

Working together

What working together looks like

  • Direct communication on one shared channel, with no account managers in between
  • Weekly written updates and a live staging environment throughout
  • Meetings only where a meeting is genuinely better than a message
  • Plain language in every document, and no jargon used to sound impressive

Start a project

Let's build something worth keeping

Tell us what you're working on, and we'll tell you honestly whether we're the right people for it. We reply within two working days.
